Every Monday there will be a midrashic fable posted from Louis Ginzberg’s classic collection Legends of the Jews. This week the midrash is about Abraham’s early childhood.

In the midrashim, Abraham was left in a cave after he was born because of the threat of King Nimrod to kill all of the baby boys in the land (much like the biblical narrative of Noah). This midrash picks up after Abraham is left in the cave and describes how he came to know the one true God in the midst of a heathen culture. Read the rest of this entry »
