The year of 1955 is a sad year for Christianity. It was the year that Fred Phelps founded Westboro Baptist Church. Fred has used the love that Christ has shown for the world and used it to found other ministries. Most notably among them are God Hates Fags, God Hates America, God Hates Canada, and God Hates Sweden. What a shining model for us all.
Fred and his lemmings pride themselves in picketing just about everything: from the one year memorial ceremony at Ground Zero, to soldier’s funerals, to the funeral of Matthew Shepard. They apparently base their utterly deep and penetrating theology on a steady diet of Old Testament law passages, prophetic passages, wild mushrooms (yes, those kind), and Native American rain dances.
They have come up with their own worship songs and their own pledge of allegiance, which is quoted below as this week’s “say what?!?”
You pledge allegiance to the fags
who run all of America
and to all the filth for which they stand
feces-eaters
under Satan
Disease spreaders
Hating liberty
Denying justice to allYou pledge allegiance to the flag
Knowing God hates America
And all the sin for which she stands
God-haters
Under Satan
United in evil
Hating liberty
Denying justice to allWe pledge allegiance only to God
And pray he destroys America
And all the people in the land
More dead soldiers
More lost limbs
Taking vengeance
On the disobedient
Bringing His justice to all
Fred Phelps and all those who agree with him and follow in his imprudent, ignorant, and completely un-Christian ways need to repent immediately.
This is not Christianity. This is a sad display of backwoods, bootlegging, long-ending-of-Mark-believing ignorance that needs to stop.

The first time I saw that guy’s website I thought someone had made it up as a joke. It’s one of the most distressing things I’ve seen on the internet under the banner of Christianity.
The magic mushrooms explain a lot though.

Honestly speaking, I loose control of my sensibilities when I think of this “man” and his following. I would be too afraid that I would just perpetuate hate and violence if I actually was there when he picketed at these events/locations.
Perhaps I would just end up cutting an ear off.

This is, simply put, disgusting. I just don’t know what else to say.

Preson, that is hilarious.
Chad, those were really funny, especially the one where he ran out of people to anathematize.
I wonder if we could picket his picketing….but then they would picket our picketing of their picketing….
I just wonder how people can rightly believe that they are justified in acting this way….it blows my mind.

is anyone praying for him and his followers? instead of saying how much his views are a travesty (which they are), it would be mistake to engage in the same kind of talk that he employs. he’s a lost soul, which saddens me deeply…and it saddens me even more that he’s leading others down that path. pray for our enemies

I’m against picketing…but I don’t know how to show it.

They camped outside a CSU vs. U of Wyoming Football game (some kind of protest regarding Matthew Shephard) when I was in Fort Collins. All I have to say is, what a bunch of nut-jobs who need to be placed in an insitution where they are sitting next to soomeone who is sowing something that isn’t there- for the rest of their lives.
